Truck Driver Training Programs and Curriculum
CDL Test Prep Nationwide -- Get Your CDL!
SAGE offers a wide variety of truck driving programs to meet the needs of students and employers. SAGE's basic program is designed based upon the entry-level truck driver certification standards set by The Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI).  PTDI is the country's foremost advocate of national CDL training standards for truck driving schools.  Each training program is patterned after the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Proposed Minimum Standards for Training Tractor Trailer Drivers. The programs are continually improved and updated by the schools' program advisory committee, comprised of a broad base of the trucking industry.  Not all programs are available at every location.  Selected training programs are described below.
SAGE Truck Driving Programs:
TTD150 Tractor-Trailer Driver Basic:
This is SAGE's "flagship" program.  It is a comprehensive curriculum that provides the student with the substantial knowledge and practical skills necessary to become an entry-level over-the-road truck driver. The program consists of 150 hours of instruction (44 one-student-per-truck driving hours) conducted over 4-5 weeks. Meets the needs of students with no prior knowledge or experience in truck driving. Our most popular program!
TTD136 Tractor-Trailer Driver Essentials:
The program objective is to provide students with essential knowledge and practical skills necessary to be qualified as an entry-level, supervised over-the-road or in-town driver of tractor-trailers, heavy duty trucks, dump trucks, and medium-sized delivery trucks.  The TTD136 is a program designed to provide tractor-trailer driving fundamentals to students who have minimal or no truck driving experience.

TTD300E Tractor-Trailer Driver Externship:
This program includes 150 hours of classroom, lab and driving instruction presented over five weeks at SAGE.  Following training at SAGE, the student is provided an additional 150 hours of hands-on lab and driving experience over a five week period at a motor carrier approved by SAGE. In total, this 10 week program provides hundreds of hours of actual driving instruction behind the wheel of a tractor trailer, and virtually all externship training is employer-paid driving time. This program also provides each student an excellent opportunity to make a smooth transition from instruction to employment with a reputable motor carrier that has pre-approved each student successfully completing the externship.

TTD109 Tractor-Trailer Driver Modified:
The TTD109 is a program designed to provide the essentials of tractor-trailer driving to students who have minimal or no truck driving experience.  The program objective is to provide students with basic knowledge and practical skills needed as an entry-level supervised over-the-road or in-town driver of tractor-trailers, heavy duty trucks, dump trucks, and medium-sized delivery trucks.
TTD80 Tractor-Trailer Driver Advanced:
Appropriate for students who have some truck driving experience or training, but will not meet the standards required for a truck driving job. This "Advanced" program consists of 80 hours of instruction (30 driving hours) conducted over 2-3 weeks. Provides the student with basic knowledge and fundamental skills necessary to become an entry-level over-the-road or in-town truck driver.

TTD40 Tractor-Trailer Driver Refresher:
This "Refresher" program provides sufficient knowledge and skills to applicants with some prior experience to enable them to pass the written and practical portions of the CDL examination.  The program also provides an excellent opportunity for those who have their CDL, but need to improve driving skills through focused, hands-on driver training.  The concentrated program consists of 40 hours of instruction (20 driving hours) conducted over 1-2 weeks.

STB40 Straight Truck Class B Driver:
Designed for those students who wish to obtain a Class B CDL license for "straight trucks," including delivery trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, waste trucks and concrete mixers.  The program includes preparation for the CDL tests, and basic skills instruction completed in 40 hours.
